Message from Sheriff's Office... We are receiving several complaints of Telephone Scams again. If you receive a suspicious phone call, and it sounds to good to be true, It more than likely is. The Publisher Clearing house phone scam has been making it's way around Rush County, again. If you receive a call saying you have won something, and they ask you to send money to them to get your reward...THIS IS A SCAM! If they ask you to go get a Green Dot Card...THIS IS A SCAM! We can not prosecute the individual's making these calls, as most of the calls are made from a foreign country. Please do not allow yourself, or your family become a victim. In most cases, we are not able to get the money back. Please make sure elderly family members are aware of this also.
Online Budget Notices
New Budget Notices Website Launched On March 26, 2014, Governor Pence signed into law House Enrolled Act 1266 (“HEA 1266”). HEA 1266 includes provisions that transition the process of advertising political subdivision budgets and levies from a newspaper system to an online system through the Department of Local Government Finance’s (“Department”) Gateway website. However, for 2015 only, political subdivisions will also have to publish their budgets and levies in the newspaper in the manner required in past budget years.
HEA 1266 requires that taxpayers be able to search their budget and levy notices by address on the Gateway website and that the Department must provide a telephone number by which a taxpayer can call the Department and request to have budget, levy and meeting notices sent to them by mail.
Preliminary flood hazard maps for Rush County have been released by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), according to the DNR and county officials. The preliminary maps may be viewed at http://www.in.gov/dnr/water/6672.htm (you may experience a long download time).
When final, the maps will show flood risk throughout the county and determine whether property owners, with a federal or federally insured loan, are required to carry flood insurance.
