Duties and Responsibilities:

The county treasurer responsible for collecting taxes; and in the case of delinquent taxes, the treasurer may order the sale of real property to pay delinquent taxes. The treasurer also receives distributions of local income and other taxes that are collected by the state such as real estate tax, personal property tax, mobile home tax, state assessed tax, and the following miscellaneous taxes: auto excise tax, inheritance tax, and innkeeper's tax.
As an officer on the County Board of Finance, the treasurer is responsible to deposit, invest, and account for all monies entrusted to Rush County government. Together with the auditor, the treasurer ensures the proper distribution of funds. (Generally see IC 36-2-19 for duties of the county treasurer).

Homestead Rebate report as income on tax return:

Rush County Taxpayers who are preparing their 2008 income tax returns are required to report the amount of the Homestead Rebate. The Rush County Treasurer’s Office is providing an alphabetical list for those who have not retained their rebate information. If you have questions, please call the Treasurer’s Office at 932-2386.
